Dear Colleagues,

As you may be aware of, the EBLS8 upgrade project of the ESRF includes the new beamline ID29, which will start operation in September 2022. This new beamline will be dedicated to time-resolved serial crystallography studies, presenting unparallel characteristics in terms of photon flux density, time synchronization, and the new time-resolved UV-vis absorption spectroscopy setup. The beamline characteristics and capabilities are summarized in the attached flyer.

To have a first-hand description of the potential of ID29 beamline we invite you to a seminar that will be held virtually on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 10 AM. The seminar will be given by Dr. Daniele de Sanctis, lead scientist of ID29, and Dr. Shibom Basu, beamline scientist at ID29, will also participate in the round-table discussion to solve specific and practical questions.

The title of the seminar will be: “The ID29 project, a new tool for time-resolved serial crystallography experiments at room temperature”. Seminar abstract can be found in the attached.

The aim of this seminar will be to:

  • Provide a broad overview of the research infrastructure and capabilities of ID29 beamline.
  • Provide an overview of the type of experiments that can be performed at ID29 beamline.
  • Provide information on application for beamtime BAG or rolling proposals.
  • Increase the awareness among the existing and future Spanish user communities about the present status and scientific opportunities at ID29 beamline.
  • Create a “Spanish BAG proposal” for ID29 beamline.

At the end of the seminar there will be a «round table» discussion where we encourage all seminar participants to actively take part in. The discussions will serve as the opportunity to bring up more ideas and ask questions about the topics raised during the workshop. It will also be a virtual forum to openly discuss the most efficient strategies to increase the participation of the Spanish user communities in serial crystallography experiments at ID29 at the ESRF.

Registration to the event is not necessary. Zoom invitation details will be provided a couple of days before the event and will also be available at the website of the Spain XFEL Hub (https://xfel-hub.es/events-conferences-workshops-schools/)
